Crypto Update
The FBI names an attacker. Is your crypto back?
Original source published:
The FBI attributes the Binance attack to North Korea. That matters for the investigation, but a different question matters to you: what does it mean for your money and access to it?

What is new?
On 31 October, the U.S. FBI officially attributed the theft of more than $6 billion from Binance to North Korean cyber activity it calls TraderTraitor. Research companies had already pointed in that direction. There is now a law-enforcement statement.
The FBI says it and other U.S. agencies have observed stolen crypto being converted mainly into ether. It asks crypto service providers to block transactions involving or derived from listed addresses. That request is aimed at providers, not ordinary users.
A trail is not a repayment
Identifying an attacker, following money and recovering it are separate steps. A list of suspect addresses does not mean everything held there has already been recovered.
Imagine a fictional stolen bicycle. An investigator who finds the thief’s route has not yet returned your bicycle. Likewise, this statement does not establish completed repayments or a full technical fix.
What about Binance withdrawals?
The new FBI statement does not announce a withdrawal restart. The latest checked Binance update still targets Sunday 1 November. Check actual availability in the official app or website.
Binance previously reported 90% replenishment and a completed transfer from its SAFU emergency fund. Those remain separate company statements. The FBI announcement does not guarantee those reserves.
What can you do?
Do not send money to an address in a news report to recover funds. Do not pay an unknown helper who promises to unlock a withdrawal or repayment. Never share a password, login code or recovery phrase.
